chicken and waffles

Guys, when did chicken and waffles become a thing? I feel like I first heard about it in college when a former acquaintance was singing praise for Roscoe's House of Chicken and Waffles in LA.

So I've always thought about it as Just Another Millennial Thing, but then I looked it up (FYI — chicken and waffles has its own dedicated Wikipedia page; I love the internet!) and, as I'm sure all you Southerners know, it turns out that it's been a THING since freaking 1917!

Oops. I hope you don't think I'm too much of an idiot. My bad.

In any case, I'm glad chicken and waffles have been around for a while since it is actually one of the most unexpected-but-freaking-delicious combos out there. The only bummer is that because it's become culturally appropriated by millennials for some time, lines at all the good places can get crazy.

But there's no need to put yourself through those two hour waits for brunch. Because I've got a recipe for chicken and waffles over on West Elm's blog, where I'm sharing a new brunch recipe every Friday this month:

And be sure to check out last week's recipe for banana bread french toast!
